COVID-19 Message from the CEO
Mandelbaum House is committed to the health, safety and well-being of our residents, staff, and visitors. We continuously monitor the latest health advice and make adjustments in college as required. We are regulated by NSW Health and its expert medical advice, and guided by other medical and mental health professionals. We are also in close contact with the University of Sydney and its Covid-19 Task Force and the Sydney Local Health District Public Health Unit.
All residents, staff, contractors and visitors entering the building are required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. If somebody has a medical or religious exemption, they need to send an email to ceo@mandelbaum.usyd.edu.au prior to arrival for the Mandelbaum House Covid-19 committee to review.
Our residents strive for academic excellence and there is much comradery and support amongst our students to assist each other. The exam results of our residents during the pandemic have been outstanding with a significant proportion achieving distinctions and high distinctions.
The heart of college life is community. We understand and empathise that some adjustments made in college this year are contrary to the communal and collegiate life we aspire to. We however recognise we need to prioritise health and safety first and expect all our community to always abide by the rules.
We expect all our residents and staff to be very familiar with the symptoms of Covid-19 and to monitor their health and well-being. We remind everyone to adhere to good hygiene practices. We provide regular updates to our residents and staff to ensure everyone is aware of updated rules and restrictions as per the NSW government announcements.
We understand the importance of maintaining good physical and mental health during these challenging times. We provide nutritious meals, and healthy snacks such as fruit are always readily available during the academic year. We have also bought new exercise equipment for our residents including a weight bench, a multi gym power station tower, and a variety of dumbbell weights. We have a pastoral care team who live onsite (CEO and Resident Assistants) who help guide our residents to find suitable mental health professionals if needed.
Applications for 2022 are now open. Our boutique size and caring ethos makes us a safe landing place for students living away from their home. We encourage students who want to enrich their university experience by being actively involved in community life to apply.
I invite you to explore our website and if you have any questions, you are welcome to contact me directly.
Kindest regards,
Shana Kerlander
